The Research Committee also coordinated the Conference Research Presentation Award, a new award sponsored in 2008 by Barbara Wilson-Clay, Kay Hoover, and Rebecca Mannel to help beginning researchers to bring their work to publication. The two $500 awards were given to Rachelle Lessen for "Prenatal Counseling for Families in the Fetal Heart Program" and Mary Ann Kotyk et al. for "Screening Tool for Poor Suck: When to Refer."

ILCA and FLCA member Margie Forrest, just re-turned from an outreach trip to the coastal community of Petit Goave, Haiti, located west of Port-au-Prince, and discov-ered firsthand the important role of IBCLCs in an emergency.
